TODAY WE INSTALLED NEW MACHINES TO BOOST PRODUCTION OF FREE SANITARY PADS TO SUPPORT SOUTH SUDAN REF

There are 36,000 South Sudan refugees in Bolore and Pagirinya Refugee settlements, 72% are young girls, women and children between 9 to 18 years with no access to sanitary pads, clean water and other basic needs. VacNet and WGEF is responding to this crisis by supplying free Lucky Girls Sanitary Pads, and providing education around menstrual health management. To support the ever growing demand, we are boosting our production that has been already stretched by over 3000 young girls using the Luck Girls Sanitary Pads.

Now VacNet and WGEF will be distributing 8000 free Lucky Girl Sanitary Pads, and plans to continue making monthly supplies to South Sudan refugees leaving in 2 Refugee settlements in Ajduman District.

Previously many girls would not attend school when they menstruated or would drop out of school completely, majority did not much about their body changes reproductive health, and how to manage their menstruation under challenging circumstance of lack. Today VacNet and WGEF is proud to announce that girl’s attendance has increased since when the distribution of the Lucky Girl Sanitary Pads started.

Early data show that the HPI initiative has had a remarkable impact on girls in schools, female inmates in Gulu prison and young girls in of Bolore and Pagirinya refugee settlements who are the direct beneficiaries of our free distributions of Lucky Girls sanitary pads. They are well informed about reproductive health and more comfortable with discussing issues around menstruation, puberty and relationships with boys.

We have trained 28 young girls supporting the production that benefits 8 schools, and South Sudan refugees, supporting 3000 women with access to affordable sanitary pads in Northern Uganda. Data shows a steady increase in girls attending school since we began distributing Luck Girl Sanitary Pads.
